Carl D. Edwards, Jr., an AV Preeminent peer reviewed attorney by Martindale-Hubbell, is a partner in the firm's Lexington office. Carl has concentrated his thirty-eight years of active practice almost exclusively in the area of litigation, both in state and federal courts and before governmental agencies. He has served as lead counsel and tried to verdict over fifty disputed medical malpractice and professional liability claims for hospitals, physicians and health care practitioners. Carl has been sole trial counsel in numerous personal injury, products liability, premises liability, commercial, construction, and banking disputes. He served as lead arbitration counsel in a $150+ million construction dispute litigated in Atlanta for a Kentucky steel manufacturer, prosecuting and defending claims and counter-claims of critical path delays, change orders, backcharges, contract deviations, project inefficiencies and cost overruns. Carl has appeared and argued cases on appeal, for both appellant and appellee, in the Kentucky Court of Appeals, the Kentucky Supreme Court, the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.

His unique addition to the firm's legal services offerings is his extensive involvement in the defense of employers in contested state and federal occupational safety and health (OSHA) citations. Carl has defended from citation to final decision nearly 100 challenged OSHA violations for employers in Kentucky, Ohio, Tennessee, Texas and Arkansas, involving claimed workplace hazards in the steel manufacturing, heavy industry, food processing and preparation, construction and steel erection, electrical transmission and distribution, and chemical processing and management industries. He has consulted with employers on matters of OSHA compliance, OSHA investigation protocols and procedures, industrial risk management and accident investigations. Complimenting his vast OSHA defense experience, Carl has defended Kentucky employers in numerous Kentucky workers' compensation matters, including work-related injury and hearing loss claims, but with particular emphasis on and interest in industrial hygiene and air quality matters and claimed occupational diseases.

Carl is active in the Kentucky Defense Counsel (former President and Board member), Defense Research Institute, Kentucky and American Justice Associations, and American, Kentucky and local bar associations. He is a 1973 graduate of the University of Kentucky College of Business and Economics (with honors), and a 1976 graduate of the University of Kentucky College of Law (Law Review, Distinction and Order of the Coif).
